Give a Child a Chance relies on donations from the general public and businesses to carry on their important work. We are a very focussed charity with extremely low overheads.
There are around 14,000 young people with emotional and mental health problems in the Plymouth area alone. With resources stretched, specialist treatment and care is difficult to come by. Yet it is vital for some of the most vulnerable people in society. People like Nicole…
Nicoles story
10-year-old Nicole Lakey has Downs Syndrome, mobility difficulties and heart problems. She needs constant care from father Gary. She has trouble sleeping, which is stressful for her and her carers.
Give a Child a Chance lent a vibrating mattress and pillow from our new sensory library. This calmed Nicole and helped her sleep soundly for the first time in months. Its something we might take for granted but for the Lakey family its been a real blessing.
We all want the best for our kids
Gary says: The NHS do their best and the people Ive dealt with are excellent, but there are delays and waiting lists for everything. Charity support from organisations like Give a Child a Chance are a lifeline for families like us. They provide things wed never be able to access normally. We all want the best for our kids. As long as Nicole is happy, Im happy.
The Lakeys are among the hundreds of families in the Plymouth area who could get help from Give a Child a Chance.
